This essay analyzes J.J.Brandt's important textbook which titled Introduction to Spoken Chinese. This essay described and analyzed the Introduction to Spoken Chinese in phonetic, vocabulary and grammar, and tried to give a comment on the content arrangement and teaching methods.This essay induction the content of Introduction of Spoken Chinese, made the J.J.Brandt's achievement more systemic. And analysis the content, structure and preparation of the principle of the book.The second chapter is phonetical teaching, induction of characteristics in teaching sound change is made in this chapter. Brandt described the Chinese sound change, put forward stressed syllables of Chinese text which the emphasis lies.The third chapter analyzes the amount, difficulty degrees and word selection of the vocabulary and evaluates the translations between English and Chinese for teaching. Brandt choose a large amount of vocabularies, and these vocabularies are very useful and practical, also considering the different stylistics.The forth chapter is grammar teaching.In this chapter, the teaching of measure words, auxiliary words and special sentence patterns are analyzed. Brandt pay more attention to particle of Chinese, especially classier and auxiliary. He explained them in detail and easy to understand.The fifth chapter makes an apt appraisal of content arrangement and teaching methodology of Introduction to Spoken Chinese.The last chapter base on these research give a conclusion about advantages and disadvantages of this book.
