Problem Of Providing For The Aged In The Tang And Song Dynasties

Respecting for the aged is the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation, providing for the aged is a concrete expression of the respecting for the aged. which is not only a kind of human nature and instinct, but also a social behavior. The problem of providing for the aged get further attention on the basis of inheriting and developing what the previous generations's did in Tang and Song dynasties, the prosperous period in ancient China.This paper tries to know about the operation conditions of social life in ancient China through the collection and analyzing the problem of aging in this period.This paper mainly divided into five parts and the contents are as follows:The first part is the introduction. introducing the significance of the topic, reviewing related academic achievements, tracing the history of respecting for and providing for the aged in ancient China as well as defining "old" age standard in the two generations of Tang and Song.The second part is about the problem of providing for the aged in the family. which is the main way of old Chinese, Its contents deal with the burden who provide for the aged in the family, concrete implementation circumstances and the relevant regulations which guarantee for the aged in the family in Tang-Song law.The third part is social pension. It is the provision style for the widowers, widows, and the old man who cannot preserve itself on the support. In the Tang and Song dynasties, it mainly through establishing some social asylum institutions to solving the problem, such as Beitianyangbingfang, Futianyuan and Guanghuicang, Juyangyuan, AnJifang and so on.The fourth part is the pension measure that promoted and encouraged by government. It mainly displays in four aspects: Firstly, the advocation of the emperor to "book of Filial piety", which trying to form respecting for and providing for the aged of social fashion; Secondly, it is to reward, including property and the honor official titles or banneret;Thirdly, it is given the old man special shiding to responsible for the aged's provision; Fourthly,it is the official waits on one's parents, which is the important expression that the government encourage to do and it plays the exemplary role in the society. Fifthly,it is the old man crime,reduced punishment.The fifth part is the pension ZhiShi officials,the special class in that period. This article mainly discussed the problem from the relationship between the ZhiShi officials'treatment and provide for the aged.
