The progress of Calligraphy in Ming Dynasty can be divided into 3 periods. In the first period, the Calligraphy was focused on and pursued in terms of elegance, elaboration and regularity of form without caring about calligraphers'personality and implication of character. This kind of calligraphy was called "Tai-ge" style and this style on poetry also existed at the same period. Dongyang who lived in the prevalent age of "Tai-ge" style recognized that this style had caused bad influences on the Literature and Calligraphy. Therefore, opposing to "Tai-ge" style, Dongyang proposed his own consideration and opinions on the art of Literature and Calligraphy. These new views had a great effect on many literators and calligraphers and formed a new style which named "Cha-ling". This style influenced subsequent calligraphers and built a theoretical foundation for the occurrence and rise of new calligraphically factions in the age of Mid-Ming Dynasty.Nowadays, Dongyang's opinions in Literature and poetry have been researched by many scholars in the Literati. However, the systemically studies on his views on Calligraphy have not been carried out. Therefore, this thesis focused on the conclusion of Dongyang's opinions of the Calligraphy in depends on his literary consideration, infrequent calligraphy theory, short comments preface and postscript and works of calligraphy. Furthermore, this thesis concluded Dongyang's calligraphy practice views according to his calligraphically practice activities. In this thesis, his opinions on calligraphy which were built on his literary views have been described in aspects of "Shi-gu" theory, "Da-yi" theory and "Chuang-xin" theory, and meanwhile, his calligraphy practice views were also expounded from his "Shuzuo-Keshi" styles and "Jinjian-style" theory. This thesis also concluded his comments on other's calligraphically works and others'on him which can confirm the applications and practices of his own thought. At last, from his calligraphically excursion and development of "Cha-ling" poetry style, the inheritance of his calligraphically thoughts and views was showed in front of us.
