A Study On Franchise Of Opium Paste In Macao In The Late Qing Dynasty

Since the inception of Macau, in the foreign economic and cultural exchanges, it has long played a very positive role and created a glorious history.However, with the arrival of the occasion of the regime change of Ming and Qing,the trade of Macau with other countries show a recession, a new economic model which was originated in the Kingdom of QianLong and JiaQing during Qing Dynasty and was focused on the Opium smuggling trade, the coolie trade and the gaming industry as industry core gradually appears. From then on,Macau began to carry out a series of reforms and practiced Comprehensively franchise system in many fields, including franchise system of opium paste. The form of the situation was based on imitating the way of the countries such as Dutch and England management colonial economic and had been taken the chance of management of Macau after the Opium War by Portuguese. Firstly,this thesis discusses the specific contents of franchise system,next through Boletim Official and the relevant original contract articles recording about the opium paste in the place of the Macau peninsula, Tapir, passing bay, it analysis and combs the overall trend of franchise of opium paste in Macao area,basing on that,it also summarizes the process of franchise of opium paste in building, preliminary development and steady development and the details of franchise of opium paste that Macau has experienced since 1851 to the regime change of Qing Dynasty and.Republic of China.Besides, this thesis analyzes several problems which is closely related with franchise of opium paste, such as the relationship between Farm Board and Procuratura of businesses sincio, the provisions of opium paste export selling, the scale of import and export about opium paste in Macau after the year of 1887. In addition, through skimming the statistical data of opium paste income of the corresponding financial revenue, this thesis concluded a conclusion that opium paste is an important source of Macau Portuguese government income in the late Qing Dynasty.
