As the fruit of human civilization, Ceramic is the carrier of culture, and is a type of art form that first appeared in the history of human civilization. There has been a long history of female-themed ceramic works, and in different historic stages emerged large amount of art works with female theme. However, due to the influence of modernism on ceramic arts, some modern and contemporary ceramic arts have been introduced with feminism and female arts elements, thus shaping a type of ceramic art form with the unique connotation- a female-themed modern and contemporary ceramic art in a wholly new sense. Unlike traditional ceramic arts, female theme in modern ceramic arts is not just used as a decoration; it actually delivers the inner world of the ceramic artists, expounding artists'ideas, thoughts and views toward life, female and the world. In the process of creating works with female theme, modern ceramic artists, on the one hand, are looking for the traditional humanity contained in female culture, and on the other hand, they are experiencing new lifestyles and emotional connotations brought by the current social development.With the improvement of female social status, female ceramic artists have become a special group who use their distinctive perspectives to view the life and the world and to express their feelings, minds and thoughts through ceramic arts. Their attention to individual experience and value, as well as art their imaginations with gender features, have largely expanded the creation scope of the theme of the modern ceramic arts. Today, modern and contemporary ceramic art work with the female theme, different from any female-themed ceramic art work in any previous periods, has become an indispensable part of Chinese modern and contemporary ceramic arts, and, with its distinctive perspective, it is depicting the new chapter of the history of Chinese ceramic arts.
