Traditional Chinese painting uses distance method and"three far"method to express space; it often pursues imagery tendency and the flow of rhythm. While the pursuit of traditional Western painting is science, realistic and static, it often uses focus perspective and solidification time to express spatial relations. There have been so many research results at home and abroad. But they lack for a systematic study, especially the influence of the development of history painting on perspective, before Chinese and Western form a mature perspective. Based on the existing research results, especially from the point of painting perspective, this paper has a further comparative research on the difference and causes of expressing space in Chinese and Western painting. This paper is divided into five parts. The first part focuses on the influence of the different way of viewing on the formation of perspective. This part describes the factors, such as the visual projection and the attitude of nature and so on, which affect the viewing modes of Chinese and Western painting directly or indirectly, and then generate the different perspective modes. The second part of this paper focuses on the concept of space art. Visual representation of the object in East and West are not the same. In the West, visual representation is done with the perspective, while in the East, with step form.Begin with analyzing the ways of painting in ancient Egyptian, the third part talks about the use of projection, the appearance of stage space and in the history of painting the gradual formation, evolution and historical significance of perspective methods of the establishment of line perspective in Renaissance period. The fourth part analysis the representation techniques in uniform space of traditional Chinese painting. Distance method and"three far"method are used to express space in traditional Chinese painting, and the perspective should be an aerial view of the actual. Then this part describes the evolution of perspective view and space in the history of Chinese painting. Considering of the third part, it shows the fundamental differences between Chinese and Western painting in the representation of space. The fifth part summarized and refined the third and fourth part and responded the first part, comparing the differences of the directly cause in perspective between China and the west. The author believes that, compared with the history of painting, from representation methods, there are essential difference between traditional Chinese and Western painting in the emergence and development of representing the perspective and space. In the West, based on line perspective, the approaches of uniform space are founded. While in China, the approaches are also founded without the limit of fixed time and fixed space.
