TEM 4-Test fot English Majors (Band 4), which is regarded as the national wide standardized test of English proficiency administered to Englishi majors, nowadays, has been playing an increasing important role. In China, it has been implemented for dacades of years from 1990 until now and has already become of the criteria for giving a judgment of English teaching and learing. Based on that situation, it's necessary to pay attention to the TEM 4's development. At the same time, the section of reading comprehension is considered to be the most important part all the time. Therefore, in language testing, it is worthy of researching the way to measure reading comprehension ability accurate and properly and whether reading comprehension in TEM 4 can reflect the test-taker's communicative reading ability. On the basic of Bachman's theories which is concered with the major qualities in a communicative test, this essay is aimed to have an exploration of the validity of TEM 4 reading test by the analysis of its testing items and material.The findings of the analysis tell us that the reading comprehension section in new TEM 4 has a comparatively high validity. The part of reading comprehension in the text has the major test qualities which are necessary in communicative test, and also can give a reflection to the learner's communicative language ability.
