The Comparative Study Between "Ren Ren" And "Mei Ge Ren"

The comparative study between "ren ren" and "mei ge ren" is a small problem in Chinese linguistic study, but it involves many important questions. The description about grammar plays a basic role, supplemented by semantic and pragmatic description, finally, we try to explain the reasons about the differences.From the point of grammar, firstly, We find that "ren ren" can not appear as the object at the end of the sentence, it can only appear in the double-object sentences, the statements and the structure of preposition. Secondly, the "de" sometimes can not appear when "ren ren" acts as an attribute, "ren ren" offen acts as an attribute in company with the two-syllable words. Thirdly, "mei ge ren" offen appear following with "dou".But in negative sentence, "mei ge ren"acts as the subject centre's attribute, "dou" often can not appear. In the sentence of connected double negative, "dou"sometimes can not appear.Comparing with "ren ren", "mei ge ren"is more free when it is group with quantity structure.From the point of semantic, the core semantics of "ren ren"emphasizes entirety, the core semantics of "mei ge ren"pay more attention from individual to overall.From the point of pragmatic,in the posters and slogans, comparing with the "mei ge ren", "ren ren"has a high emergent frequency.At last, this paper attempts to explain the reasons of their differences,using some theories,such as semantics, rhythmic principles, the adduct function of "dou", the matching function of quantity structures,etc.
