AbstractReading is considered as a cornerstone for university students'success and development. Based on the Adult Reading Motivation Scale (Schutte, Malouff,2007), this study designed a University Students'Reading Motivation Questionnaire through out several steps such as documents collection, interviews, and pre-test. University students from Guangdong University of Finance completed the questionnaire and 352 effective samples were collected. The result of research indicated that:(1) University students'reading motivation was comprised of four dimensions, which were social recognition, self development, affection, and information acquisition;(2) Through out reliability and validity analysis, University Students'Reading Motivation Questionnaire had reasonable test-retest reliability, homogeneity reliability, content validity, and construct validity. Thus, this questionnaire reached the acquirement of psychological measurement;(3) Female students had a higher score than male students'in general reading motivation. T-test result showed that female and male students had an obvious difference in general reading motivation (T=2.882,p<.01), while main reading behaviors did not exist an obvious difference in gender;(4) The result of variance analysis showed that freshmen had a higher score in general reading motivation, and they had obvious differences between grades at two aspects of self development and information acquisition (F=4.685, p<.01, F=2.632, p<.05). In addition, the frequency of visiting library had an obvious difference between grades. Senior students visited library less than all other grades'students;And (5) Reading motivation and reading behaviors had significantly positive relation. Recreational reading had extremely significant relation with reading motivation(r =.431, p<.01). University students'choice of reading type such as essay, poetry, classic works of literature, and information books had an extremely significant relation with reading motivation(p<.01).In the end, this paper discussed the methods to improve reading and future study.
