Xi and Pi Theory is an important part of Hsiung Shih-li's philosophy, which also is a key point for the understanding of Hsiung Shih-li's Original Substance and Function Philosophy. This paper illustrates the Xi and Pi Theory mainly based on the revised edition of Hsin weishih lun. The reason why this paper choose the revised edition of Hsin weishih lun as the object of this study is that Hsiung Shih-li's Hsin weishih lun series have been generally considered as the representative of his philosophy, besides, the revised edition which had been revised in his later year, 1953, can be considered as better representatives. This paper begins with the background of the philosophical creation of Hsin weishih lun, and points out that the creative process of its philosophy is not only associated with the development of the times, but also in response to his own life changes. Then on the basis of the relationship between Xi and Pi and the Heart and Material Theory, this study shows that there are both similarities and differences between them. Hsiung Shih-li made a hypothesis in which Xi is regarded as material and Pi is regarded heart, however, since it is a hypothesis, it indicates that the two are not the same. This paper interpretes Closing from two perspectives, namely, the particles of matter,"Xi Circle", which is the thing itself that forms rough objects, and the cognition of rough objects which exist as phenomenon; and interpretes Xi from two aspects as well, namely, the heart which acts as organisms and the function which serves as creation and domination; also from the perspective that the two opposing sides as opposite and complementary relationship. Finally, from the perspective of Xi and Pi and Original Substance and Function, noumenon from the function's point of view is named"perpetual transformation"which is achieved by the interaction of Xi and Pi, but the"Conscience", which is the noumenon, is a kind of upgrade of Pi. It is through the interpretation of Xi and Pi that this paper provides a new perspective for the study of Hsiung Shih-li's Original Substance and Function philosophy.
