The 20th century British writer E. M. Forster has written six novels through his life. The most famous one among them was"A Passage To India", which was debated frequently by literature critics and researchers. The novel narrated a story about conflicts caused by Cross-cultural communications between individuals who has different background of ethnic, culture and religion. On the theme of this novel, there are many kinds of different even contradictory views in academic world. This paper regards Forster's creation as a system, and takes A Passage To India as the study object, analyzing the connections between these contradictory theme through the multi-theme phenomenon, and we can conclude that the"difficult connection"is cross-multicultural creation's key theme.Next, to explore the reason of conflicts and difficulties in cross-cultural communication, the dissertation drew from the theories of Cross-cultural studies, and used relevant patterns and theories to read"A Passage To India"and E. M. Forster's other works. Last, it sums up the way or countermeasures to surmount the dilemma of Cross-cultural communication to trend the connection between humans by the theory of Jürgen Habermas.The purpose of this paper is to revaluate E. M. Forster's novels, and to reveal the echoed relationship between the dilemma of cross-cultural communication and contemporary context, to indicate the significance of"Connection".
