July 15 is a traditional day in china. It is the outcome of relative festival of Buddhism, Taoism and local community. The investigations for origin, scenes and function of July 15 are good for seeing about folk-custom. Academics keep their attraction to the provenance and the form of custom on July 15, however, few of them care about the question about structure and function on this festival. On the base of previous investigation,this thesis what the final aim is construing as possible as we can.Thus the article is made up of five parts:Part one: Foreword. It mainly summarize the studies and about July 15 at the present time. With this understanding, the meaning of July 15 can be ascertained.Part two: Finding out the origin of July 15. It calls Yue Lan festival in Buddhism, Zhongyuan in Taoism and Ghost festival in folkway. Thus different kind of name for the same feast means that they have different origin. This part will explain how they come into being.Part three: Concluding the field of July 15. There are three fields of this custom. This concluding is not a simple way of literature explaining. It gets ready for the next part. Although they belong to different religion, they often show same cultural characteristic.Part four: Debating the functions beyond July 15. Such as yearning ancestor, propitiating soul and harvest wish. They belong to human being's vital spark of demands.Part five: Epilogue.
