Professor Zhang Yongjie is a distinguished educator of vocal music in Henan Province. During her career as a teacher for forty-six years, she dedicates herself to the practice, the teaching, and the research of vocal music, accumulating rich experience in vocal music as well as in teaching, forming systemtic teaching thoughts and unique teaching methods, and training a number of outstanding talents in vocal music for our country. By interviewing Professor Zhang Yongjie and obtaining the first-hand materials, this thesis attempts to summarize her vocal music teaching.This thesis falls into four parts.Chapter one undertakes a research into Professor Zhang Yongjie's art life and this part can be subdivided into three sections, namely, the vocal music talent cultivated by the"soil"of art, the blossom of the flower of art, and the everlasting greenness of the tree of art. The first section mainly introduces the impact of her childhood, her family factors, and the environment on her artistic talent and her growing; besides, her experiences of beginning to learn vocal music in her youth is included. The second section centers on her rich stage experience and her style of singing influenced by the cultural surroundings of that period. The third section deals with her abundant achievements in her forty-six years'teaching and research. Though she has retired, she is still working on the training of the graduates, and participates actively into the choir of the aged in Henan University.Chapter two focuses on Professor Zhang Yongjie's teaching thoughts. This paper categories her thoughts into four aspects. The first one is basing on the nation, making foreign things serve China, and making the past serve the present. The remaining three aspects are mastering the unity of vocal teaching, the consciousness of the cooperation between teachers and students, and the aesthetic standard of currency, fluency, beauty as well as true.Chapter three makes a thorough inquiry into her vocal teaching methods, which can be divided into five parts, namely, voice training, reading aloud, situational inductive method, and participation. Through a profound analysis of these five parts, this paper summarizes the impact of teaching methods on vocal music teaching.Chapter four concludes the contributions made by Professor Zhang Yongjie in vocal music teaching and vocal music theory.
