Foucault's theory concerning"author", is always limited to the author functionalism, one of Foucault's distinct statements, however, the present author holds that Foucault's theory on"author"has an undiscovered side, the relation between his body thoughts and theory on author, which is summarized as body subject author. The author functionalism is Foucault's criticism of traditional author thoughts, while the theory of body subject author is mainly to deal with the impersonalized and unfree writing of the author functionalism. In the context of the claim that the author is dead, this thesis mainly aims to interpret Foucault's thought of body subject author.By employing history and making demonstration, the thesis intends to exposit Foucault's thoughts in an overall and historical way, especially his thoughts of body subject author. At the same time, the approach of comparison has also been adopted to emphasize his thoughts concerning author. In conclusion, by an overall, historical and comparative way, a more scientific and comprehend understanding of Foucault's thoughts on author will be achieved.The thesis consists of the Introduction and the Body. The introduction illuminates briefly the thread and significance of this paper, the body is further divided into four parts:The first part is to summarize the background of the author theory, which is demonstrated from two aspects: the first one is the establishment of the pattern with the author as center on the basis of subjectivism; the other one is several theories challenging this pattern in the field of philosophy and literary theory since the twentieth century.The second part is to interpret Foucault's deconstruction upon the rational subject and the author functionalism, and this part is undertaken from three aspects: the first aspect introduces the theoretical source of Foucault deconstructing the rational subject; the second aspect expounds the revelation of rational servility in Foucault's Madeness and Civilization, as well as the dissolution of the rational subject or the death of man inThe Order of Things; the last aspect mainly interprets Foucault's thoughts of author functionalism as well as its relation with his thought of subject.The third part discusses Foucault's thought of body subjectivity and the body author thought. In this part, it is prior to discuss the status of body in history and the modern development of body subjectivity; then the present author discloses that Foucault gets influenced by the thought of body subjectivity and his thought of body subjectivity. Finally, the paper remarks the thought of body subject author manifested from these writers recommended by Foucault.The last part is epilogue, which is a summary of the full text, and expounds the significance of literary development in this paper. |
