A Study On Yellow In The Culture Of Chinese Traditional Colour Aesthetic

Colour is an important part of beauty. Rich color constitute a colorful world . In human history ,colour always keeps a special relationship with human because of its features and each of them have many kinds of Symbolic meanings .The more compelling thing is that due to the complexity and diversity of human culture,people's attitude to the same colour is often different. In short, this defferent not only reflect on the different national's perspective of aesthetics but also on one national's long history. If we looking for reasons,we may find that the perception,use and appreciation to the colour is a complex aesthetic phenomenon.it constitue with a national deeper culture and aesthetic spirit,so this is a problem worth more discussing.As to yellow ,it is one of the most outstanding example for the different .In chinese traditional cognition system, Yellow basically have nobility and auspicious meanings, The chinese ancient Kings wearing yellow clothes and prohibiting others in yellow clothes can prove it.Although it is belongs to Ritual rodman system and plays a role for maintenance rule,but why the kings choose the yellow as their logo should be inspire our interest . Especially between eastern and western color concepts,human has two completely different point of view to the same kind of yellow.one is noble and holy,but the other is humble .so yellow is a special colour which with the most national characteristics.but what makes the yellow so special in ancient China and what makes this color so different between eastern and western?For this problem many scholars have had some discussions, but their theory is not perfect, one reason is that the modern color science have not established, so their conclusion mostly scattered, although many of them have insight thought, but cannot consist system. Secondly, by time and space limit, their views mostly limited on their national colors,rarely used compare perspective.so it not comprehensive.too.This paper analysis,systematize and synthesis based on the previous research results,and through the research results of Chromatology, Psychology, Pultural Anthropology, Physics, Psychology and some other related fields, try to do a systematic comb about Chinese traditional colour aesthetic system of the yellow aesthetic, explain why has it obtained prestigious culture meaning gradually,and demonstrate it with the aesthetic examples. Specifically, this paper analysize the common aesthetic feelings on the aspects of the physiology reaction that yellow physical properties, yellow emotional significance and basic symbolic significance. This article give the reasons why yellow stood out from the crowd of many colours and become the exalted color that matched with the kings in Ancient China, and demonstrate from the following aspects,such as the possibility of the use of yellow in Chinese ancient dyeing and printing technology,the integrate of soil of The Five Elements and yellow,the integrate of the central of The Five Orientations and yellow, the religious influence of upholding yellow in Buddhism and Taoism, ritual rodman system and the king'wearing yellow and it'counterproductive. This thesis is divided into five parts.Part 1:the Introduction.This part discusses the writing purpose and the research status.Part 2: This part discusses the three kinds of colour effects,and displays the common symbolic significance in each national aesthetic culture.Part 3: This part discusses the reasons why yellow got exalted status in the traditional concept of the ancient Chinese.Part 4: This part discusses the specific performances of yellow aesthetic in ancient colour aesthetic culture with the examples of yellow jade, yellow headgear, yellow chinaware and yellow crane.Part 5: This part discusses the flowing deformation of contemporary yellow aesthetic culture and explains why red became popular and yellow became recessionary gradually. In general,the problem of yellow aesthetic is a complex question, specifically in the ancientChina where people regarded the ritual rodman concept as important. It needs more broader view and comprehensive thinking to analysis all the relationship between yellow and aesthetic culture.I hope this paper will do some benefits to the question,and enlighten people to understand and appreciate the colour of yellow appearing in the aesthetic activities in the ancient times and the contemporary era.
