Nowadays"Chinese education"has enjoyed much popularity all over the world and that of South Korea is no exception because Chinese ranks alongside English in terms of importance in several fields of Korean society including trading, businesses and educational exchange programs, et cetera.However, Chinese education in high schools faces such problems as the unbalanced supply and demand, lack of motivation among students due to irrational system of the national college entrance exam and the teacher's qualifications.The purpose of the study was to provide practical implications to seek for the ways for encouraging the Chinese learners with their learning motivation and developing their learning strategies by analyzing the detail situation and problems of current Chinese education of high schools.This study was conducted mainly by survey and data analysis. The respondents are high school students who are leaning Chinese as their second foreign language and teachers who are teaching Chinese.Chinese classes are conducted mainly by teachers' explanation, while students' participation or utilizing multi-media materials are shown in lower rate. Students find difficulties in pronunciation, grammar, Chinese characters, while they are very interested in Chinese conversation.In conclusion, several learning strategies are proved to be effective in Chinese accomplishment. Rational use of teaching methods for lively classroom is of great importance.Teachers need to have the appropriate language proficiency, knowledge, cultural knowledge and cultural awareness.
