Under the influence of the Digital Technology in a digital era, the Art of Illustration has made some new progresses. And, it is in this digital era that painting traditions, which have been followed over 1,000 years, have been replaced by the Digital Illustration. Anyway, in the circle of the Digital Illustration, European countries, US, Japan and ROK still take the lead. And as a learner, China's Digital Illustration designs tend to copy foreign styles, which results in lack of characteristics and national features. The meaning of carrying on traditional decorating art is not just to show respect to traditions, but also to point out an advancing route for art design, and this is very important for modern design. Today, in the economic globalization world, advocating and pursuing national features have been endowed with a cultural strategical significance.Miao minority is an old and mysterious minority group. Miao people have made splendid achievements with their intelligence and diligence. Serving as an important part of Miao cultural system, Miao people's fineries have always been a shining star amongst China's ethnic cultures. Miao people have their own language, but don't have characters. This caused their ancestors to record war, adversity, migration and some other stories that they had experienced with some graphic symbols, or patterns. What's more, plenty of symbolic meanings can be found in those patterns. To a large extent, Miao people's fineries have been used as carriers or tools of recording and expressing Miao culture. In this point, those fineries deserve our further researches, and can even be used for references. By combining the patterns in Miao people's fineries with the design of the Digital Illustration, this paper tends to explore a new form of expressing for the Digital Illustration. At the same time, the author also tries to make this new form a carrier for ethnic cultures' developing and booming.First, the paper introduces researching background, researching purpose and researching significance. Then, the author introduces Miao minority's historical culture, settling region and daily customs. Next, the paper expatiates on the fineries of Miao, sums up the sorts of those fineries, researches on and packs up patterns' themes, forms and characteristics. By taking "the totem worship pattern", "culture blending pattern" and some other patterns as examples, the author discusses the functions and symbolic meanings of those patterns in Miao's fineries. Finally, the author also analyses the aesthetic value of those patterns. The researching purpose of this thesis is to apply the Miao fineries' patterns in the Digital Illustration. After putting the researching topic into practice, the author expatiates on the significance of this application. The paper also introduces how to choose a theme, design motivation and style orientation. By taking Miao minority as example, the author discusses a possible means of combining China's national features with modern digital illustration. With this new means, Miao fineries' patterns would be provided with a new era feature. By creating a set of Miao fineries' patterns, and putting them into some digital illustration works, to combine with the paper and illustrate creation, I want to analyze the deconstruction and combination and the edification from the application of Miao fineries' pattern in digital illustration, then find a new expressing form of the Digital Illustration, with this new form, China's Digital Illustration art would be enriched with more pensee, and would be embodied with China's characteristics, in this way, China's minorities' cultures can be carried forward and better developed.
