Explorative Analysis On The Potential Movie Quality Of The Heroic Epic Gesar

Gesar is a great epic created by the whole Tibetan People, which spreads into nationalities of Mongolia, Pumi, Tu, Yugu, Naxi, Lisu and Bai, etc. and countries and districts such as Baltistan, Bhutan, Nepal and Ladakh. During its spreading of hundreds or even thousands of years, it blends itself with the social life and traditional culture of the local people, exerting some significant influence on their history and culture, which has helped produce different versions of Gesar of their own with their own ethnic characters. Gesar is a splendid literature work with high academic value, which acts as a profound encyclopedia and be helpful for people to understand and research the military, wars, morality, religion, customs, social conditions, economic life, historical culture and communication of different ethnic groups as well as their literature and art. It is a great contribution of the Chinese people to the civilization of mankind and is regarded as the common wealth of all human beings. Gesar has been recomposed in forms of Tibetan drama, opera and TV plays, though the adaptations were made partially and in a small scale. This paper makes an explorative analysis on the potential movie quality from aspects: features of movie culture and the possibilities of adapting Gesar into movie versions, with a conclusion that the epic Gesar is surely to have a broad prospect in its potential movie qualities.
