The novel shows the history and reality of Chinese immigrants by the story of a Chinese family in San Francisco's Chinatown, concerning the fact that Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans suffered racial discrimination, and keeping Chinese tradition and accepting American culture caused many kinds of generation gap between early Chinese immigrants and young Chinese Americans. The paper analyses the novel by combining space theory and identity theory. Identity is a hot issue in present culture research, Chinese American Literature reflects complex and changed identity of Chinese Americans. Space theory rose and developed in overseas academic community in the latter half of the 20th Century, it let scholars treat"space"in humane life with a brand-new perspective. The permeation of space theory into literature research makes reviewers pay close attention to social meaning and cultural meaning of space in works. The paper combines both theories and proposes"identity'spatial meaning"and"space'identity meaning", analyzing interaction and interrelation between space and identity, seeking combination point between space theory and identity of Chinese Americans, intending to broad new horizon of Chinese American Literature research.
