Objective: Obsever and evaluate the outcome of the humeral head arthroplasty for comminuted fractures of the proximal part of humerus.Method: Eight patients, with an average age of 65.8(rang:40-77),underwent the humeral head arthroplasty by the same surgeon and the same prothesis of Zimmer Bigliani /Flatow type in our department,including 3 cases of three parts fractures, 3 cases of four fragments fracture and 2 cases with necrosis of caput humeri after fracture.Follow-ups averaged 14.8 months, postoperative functions were evaluated according to Constant-Murley Score, and complication, such as prothetic loosening ,dislocation, infection, were registered. Result: 5 patients had no pain and 3 patient had slight pain, 1 patients had dislocation, no infection and no prosthesis loosening were found. The mean postoperative functional score is 70.9. 6 patients are comfortable with the results.Conclusion: Humeral head arthroplasty can get a better shoulder fuction for comminuted fractures of the proximal part of humerus,the key for success includes mastering indication , operating technique and reasonable rehabilitation, ect al.
