Objective: To compare the therapheutic effects of minimally invasive pecutaneous nephrolithotomy, trans-urethral ureteroscopic lithotripsy, and to explore the best method for upper ureteral calculi. Method: The data of 96 patients with upper-ureteral calculi were retrospectively reviewed. Of which 51 cases were managed with minimally invasive pecutaneous nephrolithotomy (MP grou) , 45 cases with trans-urethral ureteroscopic lithotripsy (UR group) . Among the two kinds of surgical procedures?the stone clearance rate?the complication and the need for follow-up treatment were recorded, statistical analysis was carried out, and the effect of two surgical methods was compared. Results: The stone free rates of the MP and UR group one week after operation were 94. 1% (48/51) , 80. 0% (36/45) , respectively. The stone free rates of MP were significantly higher than that of UR (P<0. 05) . Conclusion: Combinated wit holmium laser, both MPCNL and URL in treatment of impacted upper ureteric calculi were effective.
