Objective1.To analyze the mechanical characteristics of anatomy-type plate and locking com- pression plate using finite element analysis method.2.Primary guiding precept to be brought forward for the optimizing improvement of the anatomy-type plate & bolt system used for children proximal femur.MethodsFirstly, axial spiral CT was done on a healthy child's both thighbones'upper part from the head of the femur downwards to get the needed information for 3-D FEA model's construction. Secondly, digital 3-D iatrical image interactive software of Mimics12.11 and FEA software of ANSYS10.0 were used to build the femoral intertrochanteric fracture model. Thirdly, the 3-D FEA models of the anatomy-type plate and the locking compression plate which are used for proximal femur of children were built based on the data of armor plate and bolt, and the fracture model was introduced. Fourthly, the boundary conditions and load conditions were set up to do the FEA of biological mechanics. Last, the stress and strain of the plate and bolt, and the displacement of the fracture were picked up, and then statistic analysis was done to all those datas.Result1.The 3-D FEA models of the femoral intertrochanteric fracture of children, the anatomy-type plate & bolt and the locking compression plate & bolt both used for children proximal femur were built up, and then a biology mechanical 3-D FEA was carried out for them. The results reveal under natural load conditions, the locking compression plate & bolt has a more uniform stress distribution, a slighter stress sheltering effect and a smaller displacement of the bone.2. The biology mechanical 3-D FEA results of the locking compression plate & bolt which is used for children proximal femur reveal the stress concentration places of the bolts are located at the roots of the bolts.Conclusion1. The 3-D FEA models of the anatomy-type plate & bolt and the locking compression plate & bolt which are both used for proximal femur of children were built up. The mechanics analysis results of these two kinds of plate & bolt reveal that the locking compression plate & bolt is in advantage when doing therapy to the femoral intertrochanteric fracture of children, so it is necessary to ameliorate and optimize the anatomy-type plate used for children proximal femur.2. The 3-D FEA results of the locking compression plate used for children proximal femur have tangible guiding function to the improvement of the plate & bolt design.
