BACKGROUNDIodine Deficiency Disorders(IDD) is a major damage syndrome which is becaused of the lack of iodic element synthesis in natural environment geology and thyroid hormone deficiencies in brain development, growth and physical barriers, include Endemic Goiter, Endemic Cretinis, Endemic sub-clinical cretinism, abortion, premature delivery, stillbirth, congenital malformation, etc. IDD is an endemic disease that is most widely distributed and with the largest number of victims. Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) is a serious problem o public health which attracts almost all countries in the world. Goiter is the most obvious consequence, but others do more damage, particularly effects on the developing brain. According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, IDD of various degrees exists in 130 countries around the world, and the threatened population is about 1.98 billion. The main harm of Iodine Deficiency is that it can cause cerebral dysgenesis. So it is a significant Public sanitation problem affecting the population quality. In 1990 most countries in the world promise to eliminate IDD by 2000. Since 1995, China has taken comprehensive prevention and cure measures with Universal Salt Iodization (USI) as the core, and has made great achievements in eliminating the harm of IDD. However, Our natural environment of the state still lack iodine to improve. It suggests that although we have achieved the goal of eliminating IDD at the national level, prevention of IDD work in China will still be a long-term and arduous task.Although a lot of measures have been taken for IDD prevention in our country, including implementing social advocacy and health education on May 15th each year, spreading relevant knowledge of IDD to the public through various means, and launching health promotion and comprehensive intervention programs, etc., however, The data of IDD monitor in Nanchang shows the weak consciousness of IDD prevention and prevention knowledge mastering poorer among the residents. If people cannot understand clearly from the thought and knowledge, will geological affect other geological prevention strategies and measures for the implementation and implementation effect of IDD prevention and control.Objective(1) To find out the status of the focal groups, we investigated the understanding of the iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) prevention knowledge of pupils and housewives in urban areas of Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, assess the effects of prevention and control measures, and analyzes the existing problems. (2) On this basis, developing diverse forms of health education intervention activities for raising awareness of self protection in residents, in order to effectively control the incidence of IDD and discovery the effective forms of health education activities, searching for new pattern of health education on IDD prevention while controlling the morbidity of IDD.(3) It is for further summarizing the knowledge of experience for sustainable eliminating IDD, and also can be used as a government policy and measures of IDD basis, to strengthen the control of Nanchang IDD, improving people's health and protect people healthy quality, promote economic development, and the continuous operation mechanism of eliminating IDD has very important significance.Methods12.2008-10.2009, each 1 primary school were randomly selected among all 5 urban areas in Nanchang City. and among them each primary cluster randomized about 130 students in five or six grader and their mothers (housewives) for investigation using papers respectively; survey on the pupils and housewives before and after the intervention. Intervention measures for knowledge lectures, playing multimedia material and health knowledge organization and group HeiBanBao manual, conversation, etc. The main contents include:questionnaire demographic characteristics, the basic knowledge and prevention knowledge of IDD, housewives buy salt, salt, and obtain knowledge of IDD and housewives to fill the attitude of iodine.All data by using SPSS 17.0 check after finishing the statistical software for entry, analysis and processing. Quantitative data using mean and standard. Qualitative material with relative description. Statistical analysis method is mainly adopts two sample mean t-test, x2test and rank and inspection, etc.Results(1)The score of IDD-related knowledge of the pupils rose from 44.3788±23.72516to 80.4192+13.56090 after the intervention, increased nearly 40 points (t=37.569, P=0.000); The score of IDD-related knowledge of the housewives raised from 63.3642±23.11784 to82.44071±0.32615 after intervention, increased nearly 20 points (t=21.343, P=0.000). (2)85.5% families buy one iodated salt each time, and 90.90% housewives know the logo of qualified iodated salt after the intervention, the rate of which is 79.3% before the intervention, increased 11.6 points. (3)The pupils access to IDD prevention knowledge from TV and newspaper before,but 56.6% of pupils access to IDD prevention knowledge from school activities after intervention.(4) Before and after the intervention housewife obtain knowledge of the main ways of iodine deficiency is newspapers and television. (5)There is a 7.1% rise of positive attitude of Iodine complement of housewives after intervention improved from.the former 35.7% to the after 42.8%(x2=37.437, P=0.000).Conclusion(1) The target population is lacking of IDD information, especially the school-age children. Hence the health education should be strengthened to change unsatisfied health behaviors. So strengthen the health education, improving people's health consciousness, which is an important measure of eliminating IDD sustainable(2) The measure combined the government, all department, and all people should be built to eliminate IDD as a systematic social Project. (3) All people should be motived, the education promotion should be performed, and USI measure should be insisted to prevent and control IDD.In general, The intervention effect is obvious among pupils. The awareness rate of pupils rose greatly after intervention, but which is not as remarkable as pupils'. The "school—student—family" mode is a success, but the communication is poor between pupils and their family, so we should focus on it in the future. Some professional questions have low rates, so more measures should be taken to find out new ways of publicity. However, the knowledge of the pupils and housewives remain to be strengthened.
