Objective:Female genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection mainly spreads through sexual life.The majority of HPV infections have no clinical symptoms or present subclinical, but this infection can cause serious consequences among which the most serious is cervical cancer. HPV infection may increase the relative risk of cervical cancer 250-fold. HPV infection can affect normal life of patients. For the physical, psychological and social reasons, these patients often suffer psychological problems. If handled improperly, HPV infection will hamper the patient's recovery or even induce disturbance. Therefore, in order to seek the proper treatment and mental intervention for female patients infected by genital HPV with psychological problems, a survey of psychological problems in female patients with genital HPV infection was undertaked, followed by investigating current situation and influencing factor and enforcing mental intervention.Methods:70 gynecological out-patients infected by HPV and 70 patients suffering vaginitis as control were received mental questionnaire survey. Mental intervention was adopted in 20 randomly drawed-off patients infected by HPV with psychological problems. These patients were received mental questionnaire survey 14 days after mental intervention.Results:This study revealed that the difference of mental questionnaire score between patients with HPV infection and patients suffering vaginitis had statistical significance (P<0.05). Incidence of mental problems in female patient infected by HPV was 82.9%(58/70). The influence of profession, education, economic status and understanding of disease on mental questionnaire score in patients infected by HPV was significant (P<0.05). The influence of age, marital status, medical condition and severity degree of disease on mental questionnaire score in patients infected by HPV had no statistical significance (P>0.05). Mental intervention was adopted in 20 randomly drawed-off patients infected by HPV with psychological problems. The difference of mental questionnaire score between intervention group and non-intervention group had statistical significance (P<0.05).Conclusions:(1) In this survey, incidence of mental problems in patient infected by HPV is significantly higher that in patients suffering vaginitis. (2) Profession, education, economic status and understanding of disease are closely related with psychological problems. The influence of age, marital status, medical condition and severity degree of disease on psychological problems is weak.
