| Objective: To analysis of clinical curative effect and evaluate the longterm followup results of microvascular decompression (MVD) for treatment of trigeminal neuralgia (TN 146 cases) and hemifacial spasm (HFS 86 cases) . Methods: 232 cases underwent MVD between 2006. 1~2009. 12 and were followed for more than 3 month to 4 years. They were divided into two groups and their follow up results were compared and studied. The early series, Group A (TN) comprised 146 patients followed from 0. 4~4. 0years (mean, 2. 4±0. 2years) , and Group B (HFS) comprised 86 patients also followed from 0. 4~4years (mean, 2. 4±0. 2years) . Results: The satisfactory rates of the patients to MVD obtained by the follow up study were 84. 93 % (124 cases) in group A and 90. 70 % (78 cases) in group B . The postoperative cure rates were 92. 74% in group A and 97. 44 % in group B. Recurrence rates were 2. 42% (3/124) in group A and 1. 28% (1/78) in group B . Postoperative complications rates were 26. 61% (33/124) in group A and 15. 11% (13/86) group B. Conclusions: Advancing the experienced level of operation, improving the operative technique, sufficient resection of the the thick arachnoid membrance around the nerve and vascular, and decompression fully and properly are important to obtain satis factory long - term follow-up results. |
