PART I CROSS-SECTIONAL INVESTIGATION OF METABOLIC SYBDROME IN PERSONS BORN IN THE FAMINE PERIOD IN CHONGQING CITY【Objective】Metabolic syndrome is a major public health and social problem, this paper aims to investigate the status of this syndrome among the people who were born between 1959 and 1961 in Chongqing, and understand the relationship between the early-life nutritional status of the Chinese who had experienced the famine and the MS in their adulthoods, and then provide the reference for effective precautions and control measures.【Methods】3 482 cases born from 1959 to 1961 were sampled from the personal medical examination database (data between 2005 and 2008) of the medical examination center in the first affiliated hospital of Chongqing medical university, and SAS version 9.1 was used to analyze the occurrence of MS.【Results】The MS morbidity of the people in Chongqing who were born in the famine period is 11.52%, and the morbidity of male is 16.41% and 3.78% for the female. Compared with the results (male is 10.06%, for female is 3.2%) of the 2002 nationwide survey carried out with the same CDS diagnostic criteria and also from the same age group, the results of this study are significantly higher than the national average. There is also a clear gender difference that the morbidity of male is higher than that of female, and this difference is meaningful to statistics. Only about one third (31.85%) of the cases didn't surpass any single index of the MS diagnostic criteria, among them, 462 cases are male and account for 13.27%; 647 cases are female and account for 18.58%. Diagnostic indexes of metabolic abnormality (MA) among people: cases with one kind of abnormalities account for 35.07%; cases with two kinds of abnormalities account for 21.57%; 11.52% of the cases have three or more abnormalities. The single-factor and multi-factors Logistic regression analysis on the MS showed that the top three risk factors, besides overweight and obesity, are high triacylglycerol, high diastolic blood pressure and high systolic blood pressure.【Conclusion】The early malnutrition in the famine period may result in chronic diseases in adulthood. Severe MA and various independent chronic diseases also influenced the MS morbidity. In order to release the social burden, improving citizens'knowledge of nutrition and promoting a healthy living concept are imminent.PART II RATES OF ADULT METOBOLIC SYNGROME FOLLOWING EXPOSURE TO THE CHINESE FAMINE OF 1959~1961 IN CHONGQING CITY【Objective】This paper aims to study the influence of the malnutrition, which caused by the early-life food shortage malnutrition, on the MS in people adulthoods. And to explore the causes of the adult chronic diseases, and then provide the scientific reference for making better nutrition-improving policies for women and children.【Methods】14 917 cases from the personal medical examination database (data between 2005 and 2008) of the medical examination center in the first affiliated hospital of Chongqing medical university were adopted. 3 650 cases (Group G2) that were born during the famine (1959~1961) were chosen as the famine-affected population; 4 497 cases (Group G1) born prior to the famine (1955~1957) and 6 770 cases (Group G3) born after the famine (1963~1965) were chosen as the non-famine -affected population. BMI, glucose values, blood pressure and cholesterol levels were compared between these three groups as the partial judgment for MS criteria. SAS version 9.1 was used to analyze the occurrence of MS. 【Results】463 cases from Group G1 were diagnosed as MS, accounting for 10.30% of Group G1; 403 cases from Group G2 were diagnosed as MS, accounting for 11.04% of Group G2; 609 cases from Group G3 were diagnosed as MS, accounting for 9.00% of Group G3. There were 1 326 male MS patients, make a morbidity of 14.06%, while 149 female MS patients were diagnosed, make a morbidity of 2.72%.【Conclusion】The early-life malnutrition in the famine period had influenced the occurrence of MS in people's adulthood. The factors due to the severity for causing MS are as followed in descending order: dyslipidmias, overweight, hypertension and hyperglycemia. There is also a clear gender difference that the morbidity of male is significantly higher than that of female, thus this difference is meaningful to statistics. Therefore, scientific supply and reasonable formula for the diets of the pregnant women, wet nurses and infants are very important, and can be used to improve the life quality of the entire population.
