Objective: Analyze the result of newborn hearing screening in neonatal intensive care unit(NICU) and to seek the risk factors affecting hearing screening. Methods: Both 586 newborns in NICU and 1583 normal newborns in Maternity at the same time received hearing screening test by transient evoked otoacoustic emission (TEOAE) and the effective factors were investigated such as birth history. Chi-square test is used to analyze the difference of passed rate,Logistic regression is used to analyze risk-factors.All data were analyzed by SPSS 13. 0.Results: 1.Of all 586 newborns in NICU,451 newborns passed the TEOAE screening, passed rate 76.96%;and of all 1583 normal newborns in Maternity, 1411 newborns passed the TEOAE screening, passed rate 89.13%; the passed rate between them is significantly different, P<0.01.2. The passed rate of newborns with asphyxia, premature infants, newborns with pneumonia, newborns with high bilirinbin, small for full term infants and newborns with neonatal respiratory distress syndrome(NRDS) is 80.00%,74.54%,71.25%,89.02%,84.37%,64.41%.3.There is difference of the passed rate between premature infants, newborns with pneumonia, newborns with NRDS and normal newborns, P<0.005;There is no difference of the passed rate between newborns with asphyxia, newborns with high bilirinbin, small for full term infants and normal newborns, P>0.005.4. There is difference of the passed rate between newborns with high bilirinbin and newborns with NRDS, P<0.00313; There is no difference of the passed rate between newborns with high bilirinbin and newborns with asphyxia, premature infants, newborns with pneumonia, small for full term infants, P>0.00313; There is no difference of the passed rate among newborns with asphyxia, premature infants, newborns with pneumonia, small for full term infants, newborns with NRDS, P>0.00313.5. The result of the analysis with multi-factors shows factors such as gestaional age,Apgar score, pneumonia,NRDS affect the hearing screening. Conclusion: 1.The passed rate of newborns in NICU is lower than normal newborns. newborns in NICU are high-risk people for hearing loss.2.The factors such as gestaional age,Apgar score, pneumonia,NRDS affect the hearing. The last hearing of newborns in NICU is affected by many factors.3.Early effective methods can reduce hearing loss of newborns in NICU.
