Background:Glaucoma is a group of optic atrophy and visual field defect as a common feature of the disease, one of the major blinding eye diseases. The current treatment of glaucoma mainly through drugs or surgery to reduce intraocular pressure,However, simply not enough to prevent glaucoma to reduce intraocular pressure and optic nerve caused by progressive damage to, other pathological mechanisms are also likely to lead to retinal ganglion cells and optic nerve damage.Glaucoma in Chinese medicine as "five wind cataract" category is due to head upside, Wind & Fire, or qi, and light a fire caused by yin and yang Tanhuo upside Piansheng, air-disorders Zhuzhong reasons, resulting in disharmony of qi and blood, meridians negative, heads Xuanfu occlusion, Qi stagnation blood stasis, while the incidence of cholestasis Shenshui. Chinese medicine treatment of glaucoma mainly clear fire, Jieyu, blood circulation, Lee water, Qufeng, resuscitation, post in order to nourish liver and kidney, such as France-based Shugan Jieyu. With modern medicine regarded as the mechanical injury, ischemic injury caused by oxidative damage of its factors such as the continued death of retinal ganglion cells and optic nerve axons are basically the same decreasing. Reported in the literature have confirmed that some of Chinese medicine in the M3 receptor-mediated dilation of blood vessels, reducing peripheral vascular resistance, decrease platelet surface activity, improving microcirculation, anti-neuronal glutamate excitotoxicity, anti-oxidation, inhibit the free base generation and scavenging free radicals to fight against the role of membrane lipid peroxidation have more satisfactory results, there is similar to the miosis drugs,-blockers, prostaglandin-type drugs efficacy at the same time proved to be a protective effect of optic nerve. Objective:To observe the effects of GSTT parameter of retina and optic nerve in rabbit eyes with Hyper-intraocular Pressure (HIOP)Methods:24 healthy NZ rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal control group; HIOP untreated group; HIOP with GSTT treated group. HIOP with EBHM treated group. HIOP was induced by 20g·L-1 methylcellulose injection into the anterior chamber with HIOP and GSTT group and EBHM group. GSTT group was injected 5 mg/kg GSTT and EBHM group was injected 4.5 mg/kg EBHM and measured intraocular pressure with Schiotz tonometer every day, before killing after 28 days, the rabbits were sacrificed and the globles were excavated for study MDA/NO/ultrastructure and Hemorheology.Result:Compared with those testing criterions, the statistical significance was found in four groups (P<0.05).Conclusion:GSTT may protect RGCs and optic nerve against HIOP and prevent it from apoptosis.
