Along with our country aging of population aggravating, the cerebro- vascular disease, especially the ischemia cerebrovascular disease is seriously threatening human health. Therefore, it is very important to clear about mechanism of cerebral ischemia injury and develop new, effective, few side effects medicine.The pathology physiology mechanism of ischemia cerebro-vascular diseases is complex.It is in connection with the energy metabolism obstacle, the free radical produce, calcium overload of cells, the excitability amino acid toxicity, the inflammation reaction and cell apoptosis. Clinical is still used to dissolve the hitch to treat the ischemia cerebrovascular disease at present. There are hemorrhage and ischemia-reperfusion injury dangers in the applications. Moreover, it is very common of reperfusion in the ischemia cerebral tissue. The reperfusion injury is hard to avoid. Therefore, it has the theoretical significance and clinical value to investigate the mechanism of cerebral ischemic injury.Tribulus terrestris is refer to the dry, ripe fruit of the plant caltrop. Its main chemical ingredients are saponins, flavonoids, alkaloid, et al. The Gross Saponins of Tribulus Terrestris (GSTT) was one of the effective group ingredients which was extracted from the whole plant of caltrop.It mainly includes furan-sterol and spiral-sterol.It is a powder and dissolvable in water.There are many research showed that GSTT has the effects of lowering blood pressure ,inhibiting fat deposition on arteries and vasodilation. Oral administration capsule of GSTT called Xin Nao Shu Tong has widely applied in clinical to treat the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease and has effective in the treatment.Past studied confirmed that GSTT could prevent thrombus form and platelet aggregation and protect heart and cerebral of ischemia-reperfusion injury.We ligated two-sided arteria carotis of rats and mice and set up incomplete brain ischemia model and observed the effect of GSTT for the SOD, MDA and NO in cerebral tissue homogenate and mice survival time.The result indicated: After cerebral ischemia, GSTT high and middle dose groups could raise the SOD activity and reduce the MDA content and inhibit NO advance and prolong mice survival time.This experiment revealed that GSTT could raise SOD activity and play the anti-free radical role,and enhance organism clean free radical ability, and reduce MDA content and lighten lipid peroxidation injury.GSTT also could reduce NO toxicity and protect integrity and stability of cells. GSTT could remarkable prolong the mice survival time after incomplete cerebral ischemia.
