Ferrocene and its derivatives behaved many special properties and they have been used in many areas, such as catalysis, electrochemistry, assistant combustion reagents, medicine, et al. Ferrocenyl Schiff bases are one kind of important ferrocene derivatives. They are identified by novel chemical structures, with some unique properties in physics and chemistry, a wide range of uses of which have been developed. And their development have attracted more and more attention of scientists.1,2,4-triazole derivatives are given much attention for their good biological activities, such as antimicrobial, anti-tumor, anti-HIV virus, anti-weed, regulating plant growth and so on. And they are also significative on the research of pharmacology. It may obtain more superior activities to combine 1,2,4-triazole groups into ferrocene Schiff bases. Many ferrocenyl hydrazone Schiff bases have aroused great interest of chemical scientists because of their novel chemical structures and special properties, such as anti-virus integration anti-bacteria, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-oxidation, nonlinear luminescence and so on. In order to obtain compounds with significant biological activity, ferrocenyl hydrazone Schiff bases were synthesized in the paper.Based on the design above, the paper has completed the following works:In the second chapter of this paper, seven new ferrocene Schiff bases were synthesized in glacial acetic acid medium with ferrocene carboxaldehyde and 3-substituted-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole-5-thione, which were synthesized from carboxylic acids through two different synthetic routes. The yields were about 65%. Their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, IR and MS techniques and the spectrums indicated that the solid state compounds existed as keto-type structures.In the third chapter of this paper, eight ferrocenyl hydrazone Schiff bases were synthesized in ethanol medium with ferrocenecarboxaldehyde or acetylferrocene and acylhydrazine, which were synthesized from benzoic acid, phenylacetic acid, ferrocene carboxylic acid and ferrocene benzoic acid. Their structures were confirmed by 1H-NMR, IR, and MS techniques.In the fourth chapter of this paper, the cytotoxic activities of ten of them were determined in vitro by an 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay using human cervical cancer cells (Hela). Results indicated that all of the compounds exhibited some cytotoxic activities against cancer cells.And the cytotoxic activities of ferrocenyl hydrazone Schiff bases synthesized in the third chapter was lower than those compounds synthesized in the second chapter. It may be the reason that those compounds synthesized in the second chapter contained an important active groups-1,2,4-triazole.
