Objective:To investigate the expressions of Cyt-c and Smac and its role in premature rupture of membranes.Method:Pregnant women were classified as two groups,40 cases with PROM (premature rupture of membrane) as observed group and 20 cases (no pregnancy complications) without PROM as controls group.Samples(2cm×1.5cm×0.5cm) were taken from the rupture site of the membranes and paraffin embedded into sections both in two groups. The expression of Cyt-c and Smac in two groups were studied by immunohistochemistry.Result:(1) Positive expressions of Cyt-c and Smac were observed in the fetal membranes both in two groups.(2) The mean density of Cyt-c expression in observed and control groups were 0.18±0.04 and 0.10±0.02(P<0.05),mean density of Smac expression were 0.18±0.30 and 0.10±0.30(P<0.05),respectively.(3)Meanwhile,Cyt-c and Smac had positive correlation in PROM group.(r=0.34,P<0.05)Conclusion:Premature rupture of membranes occurred with high expressions of Cyt-c and Smac, and this may suggest that the occurrence of premature rupture of membranes was associated with apoptosis.
