As an important part of the modern medical service and health care system, medical social work is expected to play the roles in constructing harmonious doctor-patient relations, improving medical care conditions, promoting the establishment of doctors'social support systems and the development of medicare cause. With the transformation of the medical mode, the reform of the medical and public health systems and people's growing demands for diversified health care services, the professional requirements of medical social workers are higher. Medical colleges and universities are the training bases of medical social workers; they are commissioned with the important task of training professional and qualified medical social workers. However, the development of medical social work is still slow in mainland China. The reasons are that medical social work is a new specialty in China and its relevant supporting systems are outmoded. During the drive to train the professional medical social workers, several existing medical colleges and universities encounter many new and unexpected situations and problems, such as: no clear and definite cultivation goals and professional orientations, no proper curriculum designing and teaching materials, no sound attachment mechanisms. It is imperative and necessary to establish a new professionals training model of medical social work.This study strives to take an objective and all-sided view in describing the professionals training model of medical social work by literature review, SWOT analysis, case analysis and comparative study.This paper is divided into five sections.Section One describes the research background, objectives, designs, innovations and significance of this study.Section Two mainly discusses the history of medical social work at home and abroad. On this basis, the paper describes the cultivation goals of medical social work professionals and the future development of medical social work major. Section Three mainly introduces the professionals training model of medical social work in America, Taiwan and Hong Kong to draw on these experiences.Section Four discusses the main problems and its reasons of the professionals training of medical social work.Section Five uses SWOT to analyze the professionals training model of medical social work as a whole. On this basis, the author puts forward some suggestions toward the professionals training of medical social work, such as: having clear training goals and orientations, designing scientific curriculums, intensifying the training of teachers, improving the teaching methods and establishing proper attachment mechanisms.
