Objective:To study the expressions of caveolin-1 protein in prostate cancer and its relationship with clinicpathological parameters.Patients and Methods:The expression of caveolin-1 protein was detected by the S-P(streptavidin-pcroxidase) immunhistochemical method in 42 cases with prostate cancer and in 30 case with benign prostate from Jan 2003 to Dec 2008 in Wu han Union Hospital and Tongji hospital. Results: The positive rates of caveolin-1 in the prostate cancer cell were significantly higher than those of benign prostate tissue, which had a significant difference (P<0.005)。The positive rates of caveolin-1 in well differentiated , moderately differentiated and poorly differentiated groups were 10%,28%,66.66% respectively, which had a significant difference (p<0.01)。The positive rates of caveolin-1 in T1- T2 and T3-T4 were 24%,64.7% respectively, which had a significant difference (p<0.01)。When the preoperative PSA levels of the patients were stratified into three groups,0-4,0-10,>10ug/L,the positive rates of caveolin-1 in them were 0%,28.57% and 48.39%, respectively, which had no significant difference (p>0.05).Conclusions:High expression of caveolin-1 in the prostate carcinoma was positively related to the pathological grade, clinical stage of tumor , which might be a valuable marker for the biological character of prostate carcinoma.
