ObjectiveWe carried out activities about health promotion and a series of intervention measures for community population so as to increase the awareness rate of malaria control, evaluate the effectiveness of health promotion for residents and pupils in rural community, and provide scientific basis for developing intervention mode.MethodsAccording to incidence density of malaria in program areas, residents and pupils were selected by typical sampling. Health promotion procedure was carried out for 5 months. The effect of intervention was evaluated by two questionnaire survey before and after the intervention.Results1. The rate of people who heard of malaria in investigative areas was 57.7%, who knew the route of transmission of malaria was 49.7%, who knew the typical symptoms was 15.6%. 35.4% of total people thought the best way to prevent malaria was using mosquito net to prevent mosquito biting. People knowing the anti-malaria drugs occupied 31.8%, and knowing the course of treatment occupied 47.7%.2. The differences between different regions and populations were significant (P<0.01), the factors affecting the route of transmission, main clinical manifestations, therapeutic drugs, days of drugs using were regions and populations by unconditioned logistic regression analysis, and the factors affecting the preventive methods was populations. The sex was not the factor affecting the awareness rate of malaria control.3. After the health promotion, the awareness rate about knowledge of malaria control had increased evidently than before (P<0.01), and the rate of good practice to prevent malaria had increased significantly too (P<0.01).Conclusion1. Public education of the knowledge about malaria control still need to be strengthened in countryside area. Television is the most popular education form so that we can make the best of this lovely propaganda media.2. It can obviously improve the residents'knowledge, attitude and practice about malaria control by adopting comprehensive intervention measures that are suitable for the local situation and taking pointed health promotion.
