Purpose and significance:Since 1983 when china firstly set up undergraduate nursing education to the present, there are totally 179 medical colleges which offer undergraduate nursing education, and 250 medical schools which offer college nursing education. These institutions annually supply a lot of nurses who have the first qualification of undergraduate or college to health care facilities. It has a strong practical significance to understand and compare the nursing abilities of nurses with different first academic degree, and it can provide some guidance bases for the nursing human resources management, and thus promoting the further development of nursing management. At the same time, comparison of nurses'abilities with different academic degree can provide some proofs for the nursing education in order to better improve the overall capabilities of nursing students. In addition, understanding the first academic degree of nurses can help nurses to improve their self-realization and promote their self-enhancement, at last, improve the comprehensive quality of the nursing care team as well.Method:In this study, according to the experts'advices and combining the actual conditions of mainland, we restructured the scale at the basis of a six-dimensional scale about working ability which was restructured by Yu SU from Taiwan according to Schiwirian scale of Swedish, and used it as measuring tool to conduct the status survey in the top three teaching hospitals of Wuhan city.Results:The difference of general nursing abilities was significantly different between nurses with the first qualification of full-time undergraduate nursing education and the ones of full-time college nursing education(P <0.05), so the former are better in general nursing skills and individual nursing ability than the later, especially evident in the scientific research ability and teaching ability.There was the significant difference between each individual nursing ability of nurses with the first qualification of full-time undergraduate nursing education or college nursing education(P <0.05,the level of each individual nursing ability of nurses from both two groups was different, and the tendency of difference of these two groups was almost the same, for example, the clinical care ability was the strongest, communication ability follows, and the scientific research ability,teaching ability,and self-professional growth ability are relatively lower.Conclusions:The deficiency of the individual nursing ability in nurses with the first qualification of full-time undergraduate nursing education and the ones of full-time college nursing education is the same, and the extent of deficiency is related to the first qualification; first qualification has a certain influence on nurses'nursing abilities which are relatively better in nurses with higher first qualification than the ones with lower first qualification; The systematic study in school has significant effect on the improvement of nurses'nursing abilities.
