Objective To study the relationship between serum nitric oxide (NO) level and retrobulbar hemodynamics in Pre-diabetes and early stage of diabetes and provide valuable theoretical basis for early prevention and treatment to pre-diabetes and early stage of diabetes. Methods Control group of 30 cases (30 eyes), pre-diabetes group of 28 cases (28 eyes), diabetes without retinopathy group of 32 cases (32 eyes), non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy group of 29 cases (29 eyes ) were collected to detect one systolic blood flow peak velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), mean velocity (Vm) of one ophthalmic artery (OA) and central retinal artery (CRA) by color Doppler flow image (CDFI) machine and determine serum NO level by chemical analysis. The vascular resistance index (RI) were calculated. The results were analyzed by SPSS16.O statistical package, and the P <0.05 indicated statistical significance. Results The serum NO level and PSV,EDV of OA and CRA were significantly increased (P <0.05) in pre-diabetes group and diabetes without retinopathy group. The serum NO level and PSV,EDV of OA and CRA were significantly decreased and RI were significantly increased in non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy group (P <0.05). PSV, EDV of OA and CRA in each group had statistical significance (P <0.05).Conclusion This study suggests that the abnormality of metabolism makes serum NO level and blood flow velocity of central retinal artery increase in pre-diabetes and early stage of diabetes. This makes central retinal artery situate in a high perfusion state. This change can antagonize the ischemia and hypoxia of retina and make the condition remain relatively stable in a certain period. As the disease advances, serum NO level and blood flow velocity of central retinal artery decreases and the ischemia, hypoxia of retina aggravates and facilitate the development of DR.
