The Msct Measuring And Meaning Of Upper Airway With Normal Male Adult In Xining Area

Objective: To measure areas and dimensions of upper airway quantitatively with normal male adult in Xining area on CT scan and for the clinical diagnosis and curative effect assessment of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).Methods: This study involved 100 normal adults without any apnea and snoring systoms.They were divided into two groups,one group of 55 males aged from 18 to44 years,another group of 45 males aged from 45 to 70 years .The upper airway from roof of nasopharynx to glottis were evaluated by using Philips Brilliance 16 spiral CT scanner.The areas and dimensions of palate,uvula,lingua and epiglottis region were studied with slice thickness of 2mm,slice interval of 1mm,tube voltage of 120kV and current of 275mAs,and the thicknesses of retropharyngeal and lateral pharyngeal tissue were evaluated also.All the images were sent to Extended Brilliance TM Workspace Release 2.0 .The normal extent of every variable was determined by unilateral 95% confidence interval.Results: There was not obviously different in most of variables among different age groups.Except for uvula region and lingua region,which have significant difference in two variables between age groups. The shapes of most upper airway across the section at different levels were transverse ellipses and the coronary dimension was larger than arrowy dimension.The ratio of testee who show larger arrowy dimension across section of upper airway at palate,uvula,lingua,epiglottis region were 1%,3%,1%,13% respectively.Conclusion: The MSCT measuring of upper airway with normal male adult can give an objective criterion to the diagnosis of upper airway stricture and the location of stricture site in OSAHS patients.Besides ,the change of upper airway shape can evaluate upper airway stricture also.
