ObjectiveTo explain the inter-relationship between health belief and behaviors by applying Structure Equation Model to AIDS-related behaviors research from quantitative angle, we use the data of AIDS-related health belief and behavior of workers on construction sites. And to make a breakthrough on the application of AIDS-related behavior change theories and statistical analysis method study.MethodsThis study collected the data of AIDS-related health belief and behaviors of workers on construction sites according to the Health Belief Model. The paper adopted Descriptive Method (such as frequency and composing ratio) to analyse the indicator variables, took Confirmatory Factor Analysis to confirm the contribution of indicator variables to the corresponding latent variables, and at last used the Structure Equation Model to analyse the latent variables of the Health Belief Model and their relationships from quatitative angle. In the end used the path chart to display all the correlations of all the variables.ResultsMost of our targets are young and middle-aged men. Among these people, 78.5% do not live together with their spouses, and 69.3% have not been educated higher than the junior middle school. The survey showed that they have high perceived susceptibility and perceived severity, namely get high degree of awareness of the threat. They have strong cognition of perceived benefits, but also there are block factors which prevent subjects from taking healthy behaviors at the same time, i.e. a strong cognition of perceived barriers. Results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the Health Belief Model overall fitted quite well. But there are also minority variables have small contribution to the model. Correlations among all the latent variables have been calculated. There are inter-relationship among the perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits and perceived barriers. The total effect on socio-demographic characteristics to the behavior is 0.23. Perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits and perceived barriers respectively affect the behavior, the coefficients are -0.05, 0.26, -0.28, -0.01 respectively. Perceived benefits have the largest effectiveness on behavior.ConclusionsThis paper based on the Health Belief Model, used Structure Equation Model to analyze AIDS knowledge, health belief and behaviors from quantitative angle. The correlations among the socio-demographic characteristics, health belief and behavior have been clearly proved up. Therefore, we can conclude that applying quantitative analysis on the Health Belief Model by using the Structure Equation Model is feasible, and also effective.Innovation(1) Using the Health Belief Model to study the effective factors on the behaviors of workers on construction sites and get the influence of health belief to behaviors.(2) Using the Structural Equation Model to analyze the data which based on the Health Belief Model from quantitative angle, to find out the correlations among the latent variables in the model and taking the path chart to clearly display all the correlations of all the variables (including the latent variables and the indicator variables).
