Objective To analyze the related risk factors of recurrence of uterine myoma after myomectomy and look forward to reducing the myoma recurrence. Methods 264 cases who had suffered from uterine myoma and had undergone myomectomy from Jan 1, 2002 to Dec 31, 2006 were analyzed with retrospective cohort study. All the patients were followed up regularly after operation, and the postoperative recurrence rate was calculated. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed for possible factors related to recurrence. Results The average time of follow-up was 42.20±16.23 months. Recurrence was found in 84 cases, and the cumulative rate of recurrence was 31.82%. The recurrence was 39.46±13.77 months away from the operations. The recurrence rates of solitary and multiple myomas were 18.03% and 43.66% respectively. The recurrence rates of patients who were followed up less than 48 months or longer than it were 27.37% and 41.18% respectively. The recurrence rates of patiens whose menarche age were younger than 13 or older than it were 40.22% and 27.33% respectively. The recurrence rates of patients who took related medicine or not after operation were 52.38% and 30.04% respectively. All these results were significantly different(P=0.000, P=0.024, P=0.032, P=0.035).The number of myomas, the follow-up time and the menarche age came out to be the main risk factors of the recurrence of myoma by way of multivariate analysis. Other clinical features and the characteristics of cases, such as age, family history, way of operation, the diameter of the largest myoma and leiomyoma degeneration were not related to the recurrence rate(P>0.05). Conclusions The number of myomas, the follow-up time and the menarche age are the main risk factors of the recurrence of myoma. Indications of myomectomy should be strictly chosen and patients with major risk factors of recurrence should be paid more precaution.
