Objective To develop nursing model in joint replacement patients based on adult learning theory. To evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing intervention model based on adult learning theory. Methods 60 patients meeting to the criterion were recruited and divided into intervention and control group according to admitting time. In term of population sociology, there were no statistic differences in between the two groups. Patients of intervention group were given nursing intervention model based on adult learning theory, while the control group only received routine care. Functional independence measure, Harris hip score, HSS knee score, quality of life were assessed upon baseline,1st month after operation,3rd month after operationResults Analysis of variance of repeated measures and multivariate analysis of variance showed that FIM in intervention group significantly increased compared with the control group (P< 0.001). Analysis of variance of repeated measures and showed that Harris hip score in intervention group significantly increased compared with the control group (P>0.05).The result of multivariate analysis of variance showed significantly higher than that of control group at 3rd month after operation. Analysis of variance of repeated measures and multivariate analysis of variance showed that HSS score in intervention group significantly increased compared with the control group (P< 0.05) Analysis of variance of repeated measures showed that GH, PF, RE, VT, MH in intervention group significantly increased compared with the control group (P< 0.001, P< 0.001, P< 0.01, P< 0.001, P< 0.001 ).Multivariate analysis of variance showed that GH, PF, RP, RE, BP, VT in intervention group significantly higher than that of control group at 1st month after operation (P< 0.001, P< 0.001, P< 0.001, P< 0.05, P < 0.05, P<0.01), GH, PF, RE, VT, MH in intervention group significantly higher than that of control group at 3rd month after operation (P< 0.01, P<0.001, P<0.01, P<0.001, P<0.001).Conclusion The nursing model could help to promote functional independence measure, Harris hip score, HSS knee score, quality of life of joint replacement patients. It is feasible to be carried out in hospital.
