Objective:To compare risk factors, symptoms, signs and related checks between the elderly patients and non-elderly ones with acute pulmonary embolism in order to understand the elderly and non-elderly different characteristics of acute pulmonary embolism. Methods:A total of 66 cases review of hospitalized patients with the diagnosis of acute pulmonary embolism in our hospital from December 2009 to December 2010.The patients were divided into elderly group (≥60 years) and non-elderly group (<60 years). To compared risk factors, symptoms, signs and related checks between the elderly and non-elderly patients with acute pulmonary embolism. Results:The risk factors of deep venous thrombosis in the elderly group and non-elderly one are the most important risk factors, but no significant difference between the two groups, (P>0.05), risk factors in bed>3 days in elderly group more than in the non-elderly one, obesity in elderly group less than in non-elderly one, which have significant statistical difference, (P< 0.05),others are no significant difference in risk factors; the elderly group is often associated with cardiopulmonary and other systems of the underlying diseases, and coronary heart disease in the elderly group than in the non-elderly one, the significant statistical difference, (P<0.05), others are no significant statistical difference in underlying diseases; Chest X-ray signs of pulmonary hypertension in the elderly group more than in the non-elderly one, statistically significant differences in their(P<0.05); Sinus tachycardia ECG in the elderly group less than the non-elderly one, it is significant statistical difference (P<0.05); D-dimer and blood gas analysis between the two groups is no significant difference. Conclusion:Age is a risk factor in the incidence of pulmonary embolism. The common risk factors, underlying diseases, clinical features is different between the elderly patents and non-elderly ones with acute pulmonary embolism.
