Objective:To investigate the serum visfatin levels and explore the relationship between visfatin and other factors,including age,gestational weeks,body mass index,blood pressure,glucose,insulin sensitivity index,insulin secretion index and lipid profile in gestational diabetes mellitus.Methods:Thirty-five patients with gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)and forty-five healthy controls were enrolled . Visfatin levels,as well as fasting plasma lipid profile,glucose,insulin,HOMA-IR indexs and HOMA-B indexs,were measured. Statistical evaluation was performed with SPSS software version 17.0.Results:Age, along with BMI, TC, LDL-C, FPG, 0.5h PG, 1h PG, 2h PG, HOMA-IR,Serum visfatin level were elevated in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus compared with the controls,however,HDL-C was lower. Serum visfatin level was positively correlated with postprandial plasma glucose,fasting insulin and homoeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance. Multiple regression analysis showed that postprandial plasma glucose was an independent related factor influencing serum visfatin level.Conclusion:Patients with gestational diabetes mellitus who show obvious insulin resistance have higher HOMA-IR than the healthy controls. The increased serum visfatin in gestational diabetes mellitus implies a compensatory mechanism to hyperglycaemia and insulin resistance. Objective:To explore the relationship between variance of rs9770242 in visfatin gene and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)in Chinese Han populations.Methods:206 type 2 diabetes mellitus and 138 healthy controls were randomly selected ,Matrix-assisted Laser Desorption-ionizationTime-of-flight Spectrometry(MALDI-TOF-MS )were employed to screen the polymorphisms of visfatin gene.Results:Compared with the controls, levels of BMI,WHR,HBP,DBP,FPG,0.5hPG,1hPG,2hPG,FINS,TG,TC,LDL-C,HOMA2-IR were obviously higher(P <0.01),and levels of 0.5h INS,1h INS,HDL-C,HOMA2-B were apparently lower(P <0.01) in diabetic patients. There were AA(98.8%)and CA(1.2%) genotypes of visfatin 9770242 in the 344 objects.The frequencies of CA in two groups were 0.5% and 1.4%.There were no significant differences. FPG,2hPG and BMI were the independent risk factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus.Conclusion : rs9770242 polymorphism in visfatin gene is not significantly associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Chongqing populations.
