Objective To evaluate the vision function (VF) and quality of life (QOL) of cataract patients in Vision Recovery Project. Methods VF-QOL questionnaire was used for the investigation of cataract patients before and after cataract operation. All the patients were in Vision Recovery Project and had cataract surgeries for free between Oct.2009 and Mar. 2010. Results 204 patients received integrated survey. The VF and QOL of 1 month after surgery (80.73±14.68,90.27±13.68) and 6 months after surgery (81.41±13.85, 90.09±13.66) were significantly improved compared with the value before surgery (44.86±23.38,66.50±23.13). The VF and QOL between 1 month and 6months after surgery showed no significant differences (P>0.05). The VF (51.52±21.20) and QOL (35.07±26.35) of severe blindness were significantly improved compared with other vision groups (P<0.05); For those patients aged above 81, the improved value of VF (19.46±8.62) was significantly less than other age groups. Conclusion The effects of the Vision Recovery Project were significant and stable, but the improved VF and QOL were different in vision groups and age groups respectively. The patients aged above 81 need more attention to elevate the integrate recovery results after cataract operation. The investigation not only reflects the patients'integrity condition, but also indicates the patients who need more special care from ophthalmologists.
