ObjectiveThrough analyzing the different syndromes of the depression patients suffering from breast cancer, the research discusses the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease. Based on syndrome characteristics of the depression of breast cancer, it also researches on the treatment of the disease with Xiaoyao Powder in order to evaluate the efficacy of the disease in the treatment of Xiaoyao Powder. And the thesis will provide theoretic guidance to Chinese medical treatment for the depression of breast cancer.MethodsUsing the single random prospective control method (sealed envelope method), collect a total of 60 cases which was equally divided into two groups. the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) group and the western medicine group. Then these cases were again divided into types differentiation of liver depression & spleen deficiency, liver depression & qi stagnation, liver-kidney yin deficiency and dual deficiency of the heart & spleen.30 cases of the TCM group were treated with Xiaoyao Powder, while the other 30 cases of the western medicine group were treated with Deanxit. And the quantization standard of the depression is assessed by the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), while the degree of the depression and the clinical efficacy is evaluated by the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD). Finally, the thesis will estimate the therapeutic effect, the clinical safety of Xiaoyao Powder and the influence on the breast cancer according to the treatments, scores of HAMD,the adverse reaction and the tumor marks of the breast cancer.Result①In 60 cases, the most common types of TCM syndrome is the type of liver depression and spleen deficiency (40%), then the type of liver depression and qi stagnation(28.33%), followed by the type of liver-kidney yin deficiency (16.67%) and the type of dual deficiency of the heart and spleen (15%)②In 30 cases of TCM group which was treated with Xiaoyao Powder, 10 cases were cured,8 cases were remarkably improved,7 cases were improved and 5 cases failed. And the total clinical efficacy rate was 83.33%. At the same time, in 30 cases of western medicine group which were treated with Deanxit,9 cases were cured,7 cases were remarkably improved,8 cases were improved and 6 cases failed. The total clinical efficacy rate was 80%.③In regard of the primary symptom of the depression of TCM, the number of the patients which developed the primary symptom of the depression of TCM after the TCM treatment is fewer than before (P<0.05或P<0.01)④In regard of the types of TCM syndrome and the effect, the result shows no significant difference in efficacy among the types (P>0.05)⑤In regard of the HAMD score, the result shows no significant difference in the HAMD score between the TCM group and the western medicine group before the treatment (P>0.05). And the reduction of the HAMD score after the first treatment is significant (P<0.01), meanwhile, the reduction of the HAMD score after the second treatment is very significant (P<0.01).But it shows no significant difference in the HAMD score of the two groups at the corresponding period of the treatment.⑥In regard of the incidence rate of the adverse reaction, the TCM group is lower than the western medicine group (P<0.01)⑦In regard of the tumor marks of the breast cancer, CA153,CA125 and CEA reduced in the TCM group and the western group, there is very significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05)Conclusion①The common types of TCM syndrome are the type of liver depression & spleen deficiency and the type of liver depression and qi stagnation. It evidence that the fundamental pathogenesis of the depression of breast cancer is liver depression and qi stagnation, spleen qi deficiency.②The TCM therapy in this study has definite therapeutic effect to the depression of breast cancer. It not only has a good effect on the antidepressant action, but also has fewer adverse reaction and high clinical safety. In addition, the TCM therapy had an anti-tumor effect. Altogether, the research preliminary shows the advantages of the Traditional Chinese Medicine in treating the depression of breast cancer.
