ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to compare the different water content of Static articular cartilage in the internal condyle of femur between the Moderate degree and severe degree clinical symptoms of osteoarthritis patients of the kidney—yang deficiency, and compare the relationship between the different water content, cartilage proteoglycan, viscoelasticity and osteoarthritis severity index (ISOA), to explore the relationship of water content of Static articular cartilage and clinical symptoms of osteoarthritis patients of the kidney—yang deficiency.MethodsCollect the osteoarthritis inpatients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. and diagnosed the TCM syndromes type of the osteoarthritis patients according to the principle of the differentiation of symptoms. the osteoarthritis patients of deficiency of kidney—yang type were measured water content of cartilage, and ranked score on the basis of ISOA, laboratory test results etc. SPSS 13.0 software was applied to analyze their correlations and distinct differences.ResultsCompared with the moderate degree clinical symptoms of osteoarthritis patients, the bound water content level of severe degree clinical symptoms of osteoarthritis patients of kidney—yang type deficiency was lower. In the osteoarthritis patients, the water content had positive correlation with the ISOA and negative correlation with the cartilage proteoglycan viscoelasticity. ConclusionAs an important cartilage matrix components, Water content is an important factor of the osteoarthritis patients of kidney—yang type deficiency. Low bound water content may aggravate the symptom of osteoarthritis patients of kidney—yang type deficiency.
