Objective:To investigate the common reasons for the misdiagnosis of primary hemifacial spasm and dystonia to improve the diagnostic accuracy.Methods:A cross-sectional survey was performed in 1568 patients collected in the six hospitals of collaborative group in east China from April 18.2010 to December 18. 2010.Results:Out of the 1045 cases of hemifacial spasm misdiagnose rate wsa26.9%. Among them 188 cases were misdiagnosed as facial nerve injury as 63.09%.221 (42.26%) out of 523 cases of primary dystonia were misdiagnosed. In the six subtypes of primary dystonia blepharospasm were misdiagnosed with the highest percentage 13.11% as ophthalmoxerosis. spasmodic torticollis were most likely misdiagnosed as cervical spondylosis.Conclusion:Symptoms are not obvious in the patients with movement disorders resulting in the misdiagnosis. Raise awareness of this disease and conbinate with clinical manifestations is the key to improve the diagnosis rate.
