Objective:To investigate the helicobacter pylori infection and clinical significance in preschool children with idiopathic tonsillar hypertrophy. Methods:Immunohistochemical techniques were used to determine the expression of H.pylori in tonsillar specimens from 80 preschool children with idiopathic tonsillar hypertrophy and 40 same aged cases with chronic tonsillitis as a control group. The relationship between the positive expression rate and clinical characteristics was analyzed. Results:Positive expression rate of helicobacter pylori was 55.0% in 80 cases of idiopathic tonsillar hypertrophy. In the control group, the expression rate was 17.5%. There was significantly difference between idiopathic tonsillar hypertrophy group and the control group (P<0.05). There were no obvious gender differences of helicobacter pylori infection between the two group(P>0.05). Helicobacter pylori expression rate of II degrees hypertrophy was higher obiviously than I degrees (P<0.05), III degrees hypertrophy was significantly higher than the others. The positive expression of tonsillar hypertrophy with secretory otitis media was higher than the idiopathic tonsillar hypertrophy. Conclusions:Helicobacter pylori infection play an important role in the development and progress of tonsillar hypertrophy in pre-school children.
