Objective:T shape incision and Yoels'incision are two regular incisions in neck dissection. This article valued the effect of them in neck function, and discussed the relative factors. To offer an theoretical foundation on incision selection for clinicians.Materials and methods:Twenty neck dissections with oral cancer history using above two incisions were collected in department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Central South University Affiliated No.1 Hospital, and divided the cases into to group A and group B according to the type of incision.Six types of neck mobility were assessed by photogrammetry; scars were scored by the Vancouver scar scale (VSS); sensory function of skin in neck was valued by indexes of allodynia and loss of sensation.Result:(1) Activities during lateral flexion and rotation in both group were lower than normal value, showing the statistic significantly (P<0.05). Activities of group A during lateral flexion and rotation towards uninjured side were significantly higher than group B (P<0.05).(2) Scores of scar in both group shows no difference(P>0.05);(3)all the patient got allodynia negative; proportion of loss of sensation shows no statistic significantly(P> 0.05).Conclusion:Compare to T shape incision, Yoels'incision has superiority at neck function protecting.
