Objective:To study the relationship between the expression level of hypoxia induced factor-1 alpha (HIF-lα) and the clinical pathological factors and the response of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in breast cancer.Method:Forty-one cases of breast cancer were treated with paclitaxel 175m/m2, d1,THP60mg/m2, d1, q21days,2~4 cycles. And the expression of HIF-1αwas detected by immunohistochemical method in 41 cases of breast cancer tissues with pre-neoadjuvant chemotherapy.15 specimens of adenosis tissues were used as a control group.Result:1. In the 41 cases of breast cancer tissues, HIF-la positive patients were 26 cases, while the HIF-la negative were 15 cases, the positive rate was 63.4%. In 15 cases of adenosis tissues, HIF-la was negative expression. The expression of HIF-la were significantly higher in breast cancer than those in adenosis tissues (X2=17.756,P<0.05).2.HIF-la expression was associated with the number of lymph node metastasis,TNM staging and histological grade.3.The response rate of NACT was 70.7%(29/41). In HIF-la positive patients, the response rate of neoadjuvant chemotherapy was 57.7%, while in the HIF-la negative patients, the response rate was 93.3%(P<0.05). Conclusion:Over expression of HIF-la is found in breast cancer The expression of HIF-lαis associated with the number of lymph node metastasis,TNM staging, histological grade and the response to NACT.
