Object:Studies were carried out to investigate the effects of giant embryo rice on the lipid metabolism, oxidation resistance capability and the liver gene expression of the hyperlipemia guinea pigs. Methods: The 48 male healthy guinea pigs were divided randomly into four groups after been fed for one week on the base forage as follows: group A (control group),group B (base group),group C (model group),group D (giant embryo group),with 12 guinea pigs in each group.Group A was fed on base forage, group B was fed on 70% base forage and 30% giant embryo rice, group C was fed on 0.33% cholesterol,15% lard, and 84.67% base forage, group D was fed on 0.33% cholesterol,15% lard, and 54.67% base forage and 30% giant embryo rice. All the groups were allowed to drink water freely and eat twice every day. After 12 weeks the guinea pigs were killed and their internal organs were weighted and the TG,CHO,HDLC,LDLC,SOD,MDA of plasma and liver were detected by the commercial kids;the changes of LDLR and SRBI gene expression in guinea pigs'liver were analyzed by semiquantitative PCR; the TEM section was to detect the liver pathology. Results: Giant embryo rice can markedly decrease the levels of TG both in the plasma and liver, lower the level CHO in the liver, raised the SOD activity and reduce the MDA remarkably. In the group D,most of the cell ultrastructrre like lipid droplets, mitochondrium, karyon, endoplasmic reticulum etc in liver cell were in good condition and SOD activities were mainly deposited in nucleus, mitochondrial membrance and the surrounding of lipid droplets etc.LDLR and SRBI gene expression were enhanced in guinea pigs'liver. Conclusion: Giant embryo rice has some improvement on decreasing the lipid level and enhanced oxidation resistance capability possibly by increasing LDLR and SRBI gene expression in guinea pigs'liver.
